Help! My PC wont boot, How can I get my data

Has your computer stopped working? Well all hope is not lost. There are different types of problems that can occur. We categorise them into two groups: Software and Hardware problems. Software problem occur due to the operating system getting damaged and hardware problems occur from drive or motherboard failure.

Troubleshooting a computer that won’t start is frustrating, but the panic of losing your data is far worse. If you can’t get your computer to boot and you don’t have a backup, don’t freak out just yet; you have a few options.

There’s always a possibility your hard drive is corrupted or dead, in which case data recovery is going to be costly or impossible. But in many cases, your computer may not boot for other reasons: a failing power supply, a corrupted boot sector, or any other number of quirks that leave your important data—photos, documents, and so on—intact. So if you can’t get the darn thing to turn on, it’s probably time to see if that data is salvageable.

What To Do When Your Laptop or Computer Fails

When your pc experiences physical or logical damage, it is important to follow these DOs and DON’Ts to increase your chance of a full recovery.

DOs

Immediately after a failure, turn the device off to prevent further damage. This will save you from yourself and all the bad advice on the internet. Running a risky experiment you find online may risk causing further damage! If you drop your device in water, remove the battery or power source to let it air dry. If you accidentally delete files or notice corruption, turn off the device to avoid overwriting

DON'Ts

Don’t use recovery software on your device. It won’t recover all of your files and can overwrite the data you want to save.
Don’t perform a DIY recovery. Without the proper tools and Cleanroom environment, you will cause more damage and hurt your chances of recovery.
Don’t use a local service provider who doesn’t have proper certifications. Without experience and proven results, the provider may cause permanent data loss.
