Samsung HM641JX - Loose USB Port
Customer had an external hard drive that contains a micro-USB port. It is quite old and from the constant plugging and unplugging, the port has become loose. When connected into the computer, the drive did not spin up since there was no power coming through. No access to files.
You can clearly see the side of the port is hanging loose, no further damage like burn marks could be seen on the PCB. It was clear that a ROM swap was needed, allowing the drive to have a healthy PCB donated. Below shows the location of the ROM chip.
The chip was read via CH341A USB Programmer. Luckily, the rest of the drive was healthy so data copy was quick and the client was able to retrieve all their important files.Â
