Seagate ST2000LM009-1R9174 Data Recovery
The Seagate ST2000LM009-1R9174 is a 2TB 2.5-inch hard drive typically found in laptops and external storage devices. Common issues with this model include physical damage, such as head crashes or platter scratches, and logical issues like corrupted file systems and partition table errors. It is also prone to firmware problems, including “busy” or “BSY” state errors where the drive becomes inaccessible due to firmware corruption. In cases of mechanical failure, the drive might produce clicking or beeping sounds, indicating problems with the read/write heads. Successful data recovery often requires professional intervention using specialized tools to address firmware issues, read/write head replacements, and platter handling in a clean room environment.
Dropped ST2000LM009-1R9174 Beeping Data Recovery Case log
The drive had a stiction and possibly was dropped. After stiction release, the drive started clicking badly. Performed MHA swap.

Head vendor is alternative, which means it is hard to get heads for this drive without matching through serial number.
ST2000LM009-1R9174 with Bad Sectors Data Recovery Caselog
11Nov24: This 2tb seagate hard drive came in from a computer store. It was reported to have many bad sectors but reading the drive was insanely bad with many read issues and bad sectors. We tried a new pcb but it appears that the pcb is locked to the cpu and does not allow data access unless used with the original native pcb. It has the SED1 firmware.
